DIY hair and facial masques - bentonite
•Posted on October 17 2020

Have you ever tried a DIY project and then sat disappointed at home realizing it was NOTHING like the original prompt? It’s frustrating to start projects that fail, but it’s incredibly gratifying to find a DIY project that’s foolproof and fun. Doing something yourself brings a sense of fulfillment, not to mention that it can save you quite a bit of money when done correctly.
At CurlyCoilyTresses®️, we don’t believe that just because something is natural means that it's good for us (for instance, tobacco is natural but unhealthy). But many natural ingredients are healthy and beneficial additions to our haircare routines. An example of one such ingredient is Bentonite clay. Bentonite clay is a super absorbent clay and can be used in a variety of beauty DIYs.
Bentonite clay can be used both on the skin and hair, and because of its super absorbent properties, it’s very beneficial for oily skin. Here are a few easy ways to use Bentonite clay at home for your beauty DIY projects.
Bentonite clay hair mask
Create your own mask at home with equal parts Bentonite clay and water, as well as a half part of apple cider vinegar.
-
1/2 cup of clay
-
1/2 cup of water
-
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
Mix all ingredients until you form a paste. The mask should be thick but still thin enough to apply evenly throughout your hair. Make sure to cover your hair from root to tips. You can use the bentonite mask in place of your shampoo once a week. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes, then rinse out thoroughly and follow with a rich conditioner such as CurlyCoilyTresses®️ Nourish Treatment Masque.
Bentonite clay face mask
Ingredients
-
1 Tablespoon bentonite clay
-
1 Tablespoon water
-
1 Tablespoon raw honey
Combine the bentonite clay, honey and water. Apply to the face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. To remove the mask, wash your face with warm water. Honey has antibacterial and antioxidant properties and is perfect for achieving that natural “glow” while fighting acne and nourishing aging skin. Honey also naturally opens pores. Combined with bentonite clay, this mask cleanses and draws out impurities from the skin while keeping it supple and soft.
Note: Do not use metal bowls or utensils when mixing the clay masks. The clay will absorb some metal compounds and become less effective.
Enjoy your clearer, softer skin and healthy hair!
