The wonders of coconut oil•
Posted on October 17 2020
At CurlyCoilyTresses®️, we LOVE coconut oil! It’s one of the most incredible ingredients you can use to strengthen, moisturize, and soften your hair, and it’s one of the key ingredients in our products.
But did you know that coconut oil has all kinds of other fantastic uses?
Here are some ways to incorporate coconut oil into your daily life.
Improve your dental health
It may sound strange, but swishing room temperature coconut oil (oil pulling) in your mouth for up to 10 minutes daily can improve your dental health. One study even concluded that oil pulling is a sufficient substitute to chlorhexidine mouthwash. Chlorhexidine mouthwash is useful short term for people with mild gum disease.
Make a sugar scrub
Coconut oil is an excellent base for an exfoliating body scrub. Just mix together some coconut oil and sugar, and add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil. The sugar will help gently scrub away dead skin cells and the coconut oil will replenish the moisture in your newly exposed skin.
Treat your feet
If your feet are feeling dry or cracked, coconut oil can be the magic ticket to soften them up. At bedtime, slather your feet in coconut oil. Wrap them in plastic wrap, and cover them with socks. It’s best to use socks with some friction on the bottom so you won’t slide all over your bathroom floor if you get up in the middle of the night. If you want, you can do the same with your hands, but it may be a bit much to do them both at the same time.
Strengthen Your Nails
Coconut oil can noticeably strengthen your nails and improve their appearance after just a few weeks. Just rub coconut oil into your cuticles 2-3 times each week in a circular motion. Allow the coconut oil to penetrate your nails for at least 30 minutes (the longer, the better). For the best results, do this at bedtime so the oil can remain on your nails overnight.
